(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A young Hindu man has converted to Islam live during a prime-time Ramadan chat show on a private Pakistani television network.
The Hindu youth, identified as 20-year-old Sunil, who was among a group of children and men during the show beamed on Tuesday, officially changed his religion under guidance of cleric Maulana Mufti Muhammad Akmal on a live broadcast on ARY Digital channel, AFP reported on Friday.
A packed studio audience congratulated him and shouted out suggestions for his new Muslim name before he was renamed Mohammad Abdullah -- the consensus choice.
“Two years ago, I observed the fast during Ramadan. There is no pressure on me to accept Islam, I want to accept Islam on my own will,” he said.
According to Pakistan government figures, Hindus make up 2.5 percent of the country's population of around 180 million.
